Eastern ties Avon in boys soccer Saturday

In their first matchof the season , Bristol Eastern and Avon played a hard-fought tie, with Avon knotting the score with about a minute to play.

Eastern scored the only goal of the first half with 11:22 left in the half. Elijah Parent converted a Connor Policarpio pass.

Fifteen minutes into the 2nd half, Avon tied the game after a scramble in front of the goal.

At 18:37 Andrew Lozier drove a long free kick into the net to give the Lancers the lead.

“We worked hard throughout the game,” said Eastern coach Bill Sweet.  “We missed some chances, but overall the tie reflected the balance between the teams. We were uneven but willing throughout.  Avon was a solid team with good speed and 10 seniors starting.   We did a good job thwarting their attack for much of the game.   If we had hit a few of our shots (we outshot them 10-6, including hitting the post in the second half), we would have won.”

Lancer Goalie Nate Diloreto made 4 saves while Avon’s Jack Noyes had 6.

Dominik Femiak, on offense, and Brandon Greger, on defense, played well for the Lancers.

Eastern goes to Plainville on Tuesday.
