The City of Bristol will host a community cleanup day on April 24

“The City of Bristol will be celebrating Earth Day by inviting the community to join them for a Community Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 24, 2021 any time between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm or any time that works for you to clean up your corner of Bristol,” announced Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu.

The City is inviting groups and individuals to join them to help clean up several areas throughout the City such as:• Riverside Avenue• Veterans Memorial Boulevard Park• The West End Neighborhood• Along the Railroad Tracks on North Main Street and Main Street• Forestville Village and Along the Pequabuck River• And Your Neighborhood.

Grabber sticks will be available for people to use so they don’t have to touch litter, discarded masks and other items.

Clean Up Day kits will be available for pick up starting Wednesday, April 21 at City Hall, the Bristol Public Library, and Manross Library during business hours. The kits will also be available the day of the event at Bristol Public Library. Kits will include garbage bags, a Bristol-branded mask, t-shirt, instructions, locations of trash pickup areas, and safety guidelines. You are encouraged to provide your own gloves.

Some groups have already committed, including the Bristol Lions Club, who will be tackling a portion of Riverside Avenue, and the Pequabuck River Watershed Association, which will be doing the annual river clean up that day as well.

Prizes will be awarded to those who turn in the most garbage and the most unique item. Groups are encouraged to take pictures for social media and post them on the Bristol All Heart Facebook page.

OTHER COMMUNITY EVENTS TAKING PLACE ON APRIL 24:

On April 24th, the Pequabuck River Watershed Association will be hosting their annual River Clean Up Day in Forestville. The Bristol Police Department will be hosting a Prescription Drug Take Back Day as well on April 24th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Meadow Street – between the Police Department and City Hall. This will be a drive-up, drop off, stay in your car event.
