Bristol police officer tests positive for Covid 19

Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu and Chief Brian Gould announced on Monday that a Bristol police officer has tested positive for Covid 19.

The officer reported symptoms over the weekend while at home, and was immediately tested and quarantined. Contact tracing showed no contact with the public, as the officer does not have a patrol assignment .

Officers who were determined by the Bristol-Burlington Health District to have had close, sustained contact with the infected officer are being tested. Some have already tested negative and others are awaiting their test results from the weekend.

Mayor Zoppo-Sassu stated that all precautions have been taken to prevent a spread of the virus within the Police Department.

Chief Brian Gould stated that the department will continue to follow its action plan that was developed last spring in concert with the Bristol-Burlington Health District Director Marco Palmeri.
