St. Paul girls dominate Derby for easy win

Basketball

After a terrible shooting night against Watertown the night before, the St. Paul girls basketball team was determined to come back strong when they hosted Derby Thursday night. To say they came back strong is an understatement, as the Falcons exploded to 19-2 lead after one period and a 26 point lead at halftime.

But instead of attempting to score 100 and humiliate his opponent, Coach Joe Mone took the chance to play every player on the roster, as 14 Falcons put points on the board and not a single player reached double figures. The result was a final score of 60-27, and a great chance for varsity experience for several Falcon players.

Sarah Lindquist led a balanced attack with 7 points. Haileigh Orzel, Emily Ronalter, and Kelsea Tefoe chipped in with 6 apiece.

Nadia Reimer led in rebounds with 5 and Zoey Rubins had 4 assists and 4 steals for the Falcons.

Genna Chevarella led Derby with an 11 point night.

St. Paul is now 12-4 on the season, and next plays at Wilby of Waterbury on Monday, Valentine’s Day, at 6:00.
