Pine Lake group preps for fishing derby next week

By David Fortier

Members of the Pine Lake Commission spent Saturday morning cleaning up for the 7th Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby to be held next Saturday, May 8, at Pine Lake, from 7 a.m. to 12 noon. Among those volunteering for spring clean-up were seven-year commission member, Bob Cummiskey, and his wife, Jane; commission chair John Gianoni; and City Council liaison Mary Fortier.

The derby will have prizes for the biggest fish, smallest fish and most fish caught. There will be three prizes in each category for the following ages groups: 5 to 8 years, 9 to 12 years and 12 to 15 years. Prizes are purchased from donations by area businesses.

Rules include the following: Each child must register and must be accompanied by an adult, adults can assist with casting only, fishing is from the shore only, only live bait, participants must fish from within posted boundaries, only one prize per participant. For the complete list, see the rules in the flier, below.
