St. Paul girls capture NVL Tournament title with 51-47 victory over Holy Cross

Basketball

When St. Paul defeated Holy Cross in NVL action about a month ago, it was the first defeat for Holy Cross in the league in almost five years. But in case anyone thought that win was a fluke, the Falcons just added the exclamation point with a huge 51-47 win for the NVL tournament championship Wednesday night.

Audrey Tice scored 19 points, hitting from three point range and driving to the hoop in a great performance. And Rebecca Kelly was a rock inside with her typical night of 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Holy Cross was led by Corrine Lomax and Shania Howard with 17 and 12 points respectively. Holy Cross was missing their senior captain, Mya Zaccagnini, who sprained her ankle in the semi-finals.

That did not diminish the significance of the Falcon victory, however, as they are the first team in five years to wrest the NVL crown away from the Waterbury juggernaut.

Saint Paul now moves on to the State Class M Tournament with a #8 ranking. They will open play next week on Tuesday, hosting Grasso Tech in a 6:30 tipoff. They certainly have a ton of momentum entering the Tourney.
