Eleanor F. (Holt) Hurlburt

Eleanor F. (Holt) Hurlburt, 83, of Bristol, beloved wife of Franklin L. Hurlburt, died on Sunday, Jan. 23, at Bristol Hospital. Eleanor was born on Jan. 25, 1938, in Bristol and was the daughter of the late Rutherford G. and Ferne (Spong) Holt. She graduated from Plainville High School before settling in Bristol to raise her family.

She was an incredible musician, serving as organist and choir director at the former Bristol Baptist Church for 21 years, and then serving Center Congregational Church in Meriden until retiring in 2012. Eleanor spent many years accompanying the Bristol Choral Society and was well-known in the community for her musical talent. She also provided beautiful music to countless families for weddings and funerals throughout the area.

She enjoyed watching Jeopardy, loved Pepperidge Farm Lemon Cake, all kinds of puzzles, especially crosswords, and had fun playing duets at the piano with her daughters and her nephew Cliffy, with whom she had a special bond.

In addition to her husband of nearly 66 years, Eleanor is survived by three daughters: Cindy Emery and husband, William of Island Falls, Maine, Diane Skelskey of Bristol, and Susan Vieira of Burlington; a brother: Clifton Holt and wife, Donna of Plainville; half-sister: Barbara Silva of Southington; six grandchildren: Christopher Emery, Allison Roundy and husband, Darren, Amy Kelley and husband, Mike, Ian Skelskey, Natalie and Joaquim Vieira, Jr.; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother: John Holt, and half-siblings: Patricia Livingstone and James Holt.  

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Friday, Jan. 28, between 11 a.m. and 12 noon followed by a Service to Remember. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
