PLAINVILLE – The Bristol Central softball squad is on a major roll right now and in a CCC South entanglement against Plainville on Wednesday, it was more of the same by the locals.

The Rams, behind a solid pitching attack from Sophia Torreso and Alex Sciarretto, posted a 4-0 shutout of the Blue Devils from Trumbull Park in Plainville.

The Sophia Torreso/Sciarretto duo combined on a one-hitter while posting 12 strikeouts overall to send the home team packing.

Plainville fell to 4-11 off the losing effort.

It was Central’s sixth straight victory – winners of eight out of its last nine games – with the eight-inning loss at Bristol Eastern the only recent setback.

It was also the fifth shutout of the season by Central’s excellent pitching staff.

Central is on fire at 12-3 overall with two games left to play in the regular season.

The Rams remain in 11th place in the CIAC, Class L standings, trailing Wethersfield and Naugatuck by a game (14-3).

Against Plainville, Central ended the suspense early with a run in the first frame and added two more in the second to snare a 3-0 push through two innings.

Sam and Leah Sklenka notched three of the team’s four runs while veteran Janessa Bartell scored the other.

Offensively, Gwen Torreso, Leah, and Kaley Laird all blasted out hits for the Rams.

Central ends the campaign with its city series battle against Eastern on Monday with the contest commencing at 4 p.m. from the softball field at BCHS.
