BEHS boys soccer drops tough 2-0 decision to Middletown on Tuesday afternoon in a CCC South bout

By Michael Letendre

MIDDLETOWN – The Middletown boys soccer program, an excellent outfit, was able to scoop up a 2-0 victory over Bristol Eastern in a CCC South tilt on Tuesday afternoon from the stadium at Middletown High School.

The victory raised the Blue Dragons to a sterling 7-2-1 overall while the Lancers fell to 3-5-2.

Middletown dropped in two second half goals to help topple the Kingstreeters.

Middletown’s Marshall Butler took a rebound from Lancers goalie Peyton Cummings and slammed home the first goal of the contest with 29:27 remaining in the game to make it a 1-0 contest.

However, Eastern hung around and took that one-goal deficit into the final two minutes of the showdown.

But with seconds left in the tilt, Middletown’s John Carrenard doubled the score with just 1:30 left in the match – dropping in a goal to make it a 2-0 affair.

“We were able to contain Middletown’s high-powered attack for much of the game, but were unable to put home our chances,” said Eastern coach Bill Sweet.

Cummings made eight saves for Eastern while Middletown’s Tyler Hahn stopped four shots.

On the remaining docket for the Lancers this week, Eastern travels to Newington for a match on Friday at 6 p.m. from Alumni Field (in Newington).

Next week, there’s an immediate rematch between Middletown and Eastern.

The contest between the Lancers and Blue Dragons commences on Tuesday while the Kingstreeters make a quick trip to Plainville on Thursday (6 p.m.) for a CCC South bout against the Blue Devils.
