Bristol Central Track & Field’s Popielarz and Porrini run the steeplechase; DeAngelo off to the West Coast for major event in July

NEW BRITAIN – This past Tuesday and Wednesday, the CIAC held its annual Boys and Girls Outdoor Track & Field Decathlon, Heptathlon, Steeplechase, and Hammer throw showcases from Willow Brook Park in New Britain.

And a couple athletes from Bristol Central performed extremely well at the events.

Natalia Popielarz ran in the Steeplechase on Tuesday, earning a 14th place finish in the 2000-meter challenge.

Her time of 8:00.3 was an excellent showing to end the campaign and the following day, super sophomore Frankie Porrini was involved in the boys steeplechase.

Porrini ran the 3000 meters and placed seventh overall in a time of 10:19.25.

He was the fourth best finisher out of the group of boys from the Central Connecticut Conference.

“It was a great couple days to end the CIAC season,” said Bristol Central boys track and field coach Tamara Stafford-Kirk.

DeAngelo to run at Outdoor Nationals

Bristol Central distance running sensation Nate DeAngelo is heading to a major event on the West Coast in the beginning of July.

But he needs a little help to get there.

DeAngelo will be running at the Outdoor Nationals, presented by Nike, at Hayward Field in Oregon on July 3.

It’s a tremendous event, one that will help wrap up his scholastic career before heading off to UMASS Lowell – running for both the Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field squads.

In Oregon, DeAngelo is entered in the mile and the 5000-meter events.

“We are so excited for Nate to be able to attend the meet at historic Hayward Field in Tracktown USA,” said Stafford-Kirk.

The Nationals meet runs from June 30 to July 3.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help DeAngelo with the expenses of attending this amazing event.

“This meet is outside of the high school season so Nate and the coaches attending are footing the bill,” said Stafford-Kirk. “Nate has a GoFundMe set up to help defray his family’s out of pocket expenses.”
