City of Bristol Fire Department members seek donations for 9/11 Memorial and restoration to local monument

As the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks approaches, Bristol firefighters are in the
planning stages on a project to restore a local monument.

The Fire Headquarters monument section is located on the corner of North Main and Center Streets
and recognizes the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) as well as the Fallen Firefighters memorial.

The project will include a 9/11 Monument, an IAFF Monument, restoration of the existing Bristol Fallen Firefighters Monument and will include hardscapes, landscaping and lighting.

“Our plan is to solicit donations to fund the restoration of the IAFF and Fallen Firefighters
monuments and to add a memorial to remember the tragic events of September 1, 2001,” said Sean
Lennon, President of Local 773.

“The project will be totally funded by Bristol Firefighters and contributions from the public and
businesses across the City,” said Mayor Zoppo-Sassu. There will be numerous activities by the Fire Department over the months ahead to shine on a light on this project and to solicit donations.
