Bristol Eastern girls tennis falls to Southington in tough 7-0 sweep on Monday

By Michael Letendre

SOUTHINGTON – The Bristol Eastern girls tennis squad has taken on some of the top programs of the Central Connecticut Conference over its last two matches.

And while the results haven’t exactly gone in the Kingstreeters favor, the team has continued to push, keeps fighting, and those battles are eventually going to have some sort of pay off.

Eastern went up against a tough squad from Southington on Monday afternoon, falling by a 7-0 final from the tennis courts at Southington High School.

The Knights improved to 7-2 overall while the Lancers dropped to 2-5.

Southington was dominant from top to bottom, wrapping up big wins up and down singles and doubles play.

In the top singles bout, Southington’s Riley Tindall defeated Ashlee Lewandoski by identical scores of 6-1 and 6-1 while in the No. 2 slot, Adriana Palmieri ramped up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Eastern’s Brooke Treannie.

In No. 3 singles, Alina Rivera upended Ava Gesner by tallies of 6-0 and 6-2 and in the final spot, Southington’s No. 4 – Marina Chaplinsky – posted wins of 6-2 and 6-1 over the Lancers’ Kiana Ouellette.

And then the Knights went to work in doubles play but Southington’s No. 1 combination of Avery Halloran and Ali Bruce was sternly tested by Eastern’s Jenna Cefaly and Brianna Kelley.

The Knights’ duo ended up winning by set scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

The Lancers No. 2 doubles team of Adrianna Reay and Olivia Dossias fell to Fanola Dede and Emma Pfanzelt (6-0, 6-1) and at No. 3, the Knights’ team of Casey Sullivan and Julia Rusiecki were straight set victors over Gina D’Angelo and Taylor Berube (6-0, 6-0).

The Lancers are in action in back-to-back matches on Thursday at Wethersfield and Friday at home for a showdown against Newington – both with 3:45 p.m. starts.
