Farmers Market announces end of season activities

Dawn Nielsen, Farmers Market Manager and Marketing & Public Relations Specialist for the City of Bristol, recently announced that there are three weeks remaining for the market this fall. The last Saturday will be on October 31. The market is open each Saturday from 10:00 til 1:00.

The Bristol Historical Society will be there for the next three weeks selling their 2020 commemorative holiday ornaments. One ornament represents Bristol Hospital to commemorate their 100-year anniversary. The second ornament commemorates the impact of Covid-19 and the response of essential workers and volunteers.

The weekly electronics Recycling program will also end on October 31, so if you have old, unused electronics you would like to dispose of safely, be sure to bring them to the market also.

On October 17 the Bristol Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be in attendance to showcase their involvement in the Bristol community and to educate people about disaster preparedness.

Also on the 17th, Trash-to-Treasure will be back. It will be located in
the empty parking lot off of Hope Street, south of the Farmers Market. The popular Trash-to- Treasure program offers unwanted and gently used furniture items recovered from the Bristol Transfer Station. Items will be available FREE to the public, but must be picked up between 10 am and 1:00 pm on the 17th

On October 24, Bristol Health will have a booth to promote Breast Cancer
Awareness month and the importance of early detection through mammograms and yearly exams with their health providers. Attending will be Bristol Health’s Breast Nurse Navigator/Program Coordinator, Rachael Marlin, and Dr. Elizabeth Brady, the new Medical Director and Breast
Surgeon of the Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness. Nurse Navigator of the Cancer Care Center, Robyn Rakowski and Jeannie Robbins, MSN, RN, NE-BC, RN-BC, Clinical Service Line Director for the Bristol Health Cancer Care Center will be providing educational information and materials to the community.

Also on the 24th, the Bristol Police Department will be in attendance for ‘Drug Take Back Day’ and will be collecting unused prescription drugs.

In addition, the Bristol Police Youth Cadets will have a table at the Bristol Farmers Market to sell raffle calendars for the month of November to help raise money and bring awareness to and for Stations Day, High Stress Day, the Cadet Police Academy, and to fund the Youth Cadet’s CPR Training. Please support them by purchasing a raffle on October 24.

On October 31, the last day of the season, the Bristol Farmers Market will be
celebrating Halloween with several activities for kids, along with a costume contest. A free goodie bag with clues for a scavenger hunt will be provided to all children wearing a costume.
First, second, and third prizes will be awarded for best costumes.

The B.E.S.T. team will also be at the Farmers Market on October 31 to share how the coalition is working to promote positive youth development and a healthier community. The B.E.S.T tent will have free giveaways and informational materials along with candy for the kids for Halloween.
