Eastern Volleyball comes from behind to defeat Newington in five sets

On Friday night, things were not looking very good for the Bristol Eastern volleyball team, as they dropped two consecutive sets to Newington and were facing their second defeat of the year. But as the Lancers have done so often in the past, they settled down and raised their level of play, ultimately winning the final three sets and pulling out a well-deserved victory at the Newington gymnasium.

The scores in sets were:

Set 1: 20-25 Newington
Set 2: 21-25 Newington
Set 3: 25-23 BE
Set 4: 25-12 BE
Set 5: 16-14 BE

Alyssa Valentine was all over the floor for the Lancers, collecting 34 assists, 6 digs, and 2 kills. Lauren Bender smoked 23 kills at the net, and added 3 assists and 14 digs. Adrianna Reay served up 3 aces to go along with 12 kills and 8 digs. And Lilli Lowe chipped in with 2 aces, 5 kills, 2 blocks, and 6 digs.

Newington was led by Omayra Batista with 21 digs, Alyssa Dugas with 3 aces, 33 assists, and 13 digs, and Sophia Chrowstowski with 4 aces and 9 kills. Brooke Poulin added 7 kills and 1 assist.

Eastern now has a record of 8-1, and the Lancers host Bristol Central Monday at 6:00.
Newington’s record drops to 4-4.

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access eight (8) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access eight (8) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
