Bristol Sports Hall of Fame honors Scholar-Athletes from Bristol’s three high schools Sunday night

One hundred twelve students from the three Bristol high schools were honored Sunday night at the Double Tree as The Jack Hines Scholar-Athlete Award Ceremony returned to a banquet format after two years of Covid forced Zoom ceremonies.

Joe McGinn Award

The evening began with senior Kaley Laird from Bristol Central awarded the Joe McGinn Award for her courage and determination as a member of the basketball and softball teams at Central.

Scholar Athletes

Students from all three schools were presented with their scholar-athlete certificates and a small gift. In order to be honored, the students needed to have a 3.7 GPA or a 90 average or better for their academic standing, combined with earning at least three varsity letters in their athletic careers. Student Speaker-Max Stavens

Max Stavens from Bristol Eastern was the featured student speaker for the evening. He spoke of the wonderful opportunity all the students had to take part in athletic programs, and the valuable lessons they all would take with them in their future endeavors.

Scholarship Winners Named

At the end of the program, the names of Hall of Fame scholarship winners were announced. Each recipient received an award of $1,500 for their accomplishments as student-athletes. The recipients were as follows:

From Bristol Central, Lance Archibald received the Alfred Greenleaf Memorial Scholarship and Emily Lowe received the Leary Family Memorial Scholarship.

From Bristol Eastern, Jed Sutula and Cecelia Gilbert both received the Christopher Calnan Memorial Scholarship.

And from St. Paul, Adam Zwolinski received the Brian Farrell Memorial Scholarship.
