BRISTOL – The Bristol Central softball team is heading back to the postseason.

The Rams, winners of four of its past five games, qualified for the state tournament on Wednesday via a 5-0 victory against Middletown from the Bristol Central softball field in a CCC South entanglement.

Central moved to 8-3 overall and picked up its fourth shutout of the campaign.

The Blue Dragons fell to 2-12 overall, losing its sixth straight contest.

Sophia Torreso took her turn in the circle and picked up another win for the Rams.

She flipped out a one-hitter while posting 15 strikeouts over another superb effort.

Offensively, several players from the home team picked up hits.

Sam Sklenka and Gwen Torreso each roped out two hits while several players also made offensive contributions.

Kayla St Onge, Janessa Bartell, Kaley Laird, Lorelei Stancavage, and Sophia Torreso all tallied hits – leading to the winning effort.

Central isn’t done with the week yet as the locals have to compete in back-to-back-to-back games as the schedule is heating up over the month of May.

On Thursday, the Rams are in a CCC Interdivisional tilt against Wethersfield in Bristol at 4 p.m.

And then on Friday, the locals go on the road – squaring off against Maloney at the Dunn Sports Complex in Meriden in yet another CCC South battle.

Game time is at 7 p.m.
