Bristol Historical Society Launching Local History Scavenger Hunt

The Bristol Historical Society will have two scavenger hunts with one taking place in the Federal Hill area

As part of their 50th anniversary, the Bristol Historical Society is hosting two custom-designed Scavenger Hunts for 3rd and 4th graders, but families are encouraged to participate as well.

“Bristol has so many places throughout the city that are steeped in history, and we are so grateful to Torrington Savings Bank for helping us give kids a chance to discover that history in places they walk and drive by every day,” said Bristol Historical Society President Maya Bringe.

The hunt begins Friday, Sept. 24, and ends Saturday, Oct. 9, and features walking and driving searches of Bristol. This is the first time the Bristol Historical Society has done a scavenger hunt.

The walking scavenger hunt exclusively covers landmarks in the Federal Hill area, while the second hunt is a driving search of Bristol.

All correctly completed entries will be entered into a prize draw and winners notified by telephone no later than Oct. 12. The clues and answer sheets will be available beginning Sept. 24 at the children’s departments at the Bristol Public Library, Manross Library, the Bristol branch of Torrington Savings Bank, 888 Farmington Avenue; as well as the Bristol Historical Society, 98 Summer Street (Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10-2), including their website at http://bristolhistoricalsociety.org

Responses can be emailed to scavengerhunt@bristolhistoricalsociety.org or dropped off at the Bristol Historical Society  (Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10-2).

Students and young history buffs will learn about monuments, historic buildings, and notable people who help shape and define Bristol’s story.
