St. Paul’s bid for second consecutive upset in the NVL is repelled by Torrington Thursday night

Basketball

On Tuesday night St. Paul electrified their followers with a win over Holy Cross, a team that had not lost a game in the NVL for several years. Thursday brought a visit by the Torrington Red Raiders, the other team with an elite record in the league, and the Falcons’ attempt at a second consecutive upset fell by the wayside, as Torrington went home with a 48-40 victory.

The Falcons were cold from the outset as Torrington’s defense locked them up, holding St. Paul to single digit totals in three of the four quarters.

Rebecca Kelly was the only Falcon scoring in double digits with 13 points.

Torrington was paced by Haley Burger with 14 and Leah Pergola with 13 points.

Torrington is now 13-2.

St. Paul drops to 10-5 on the season and plays Naugatuck on Saturday in an afternoon 2:30 start.
