St. Paul girls basketball opens season with easy win

Basketball

The St. Paul girls opened their season with a blistering first quarter, outscoring Kennedy of Waterbury by a 30-5 margin, and the Falcons cruised after that to an easy 82-43 victory Friday night. The score stood at 44-21 at halftime, and the second half gave Coach Joe Mone the chance to give everyone playing time and try out different combinations on the floor.

Audrey Tice led the Falcons with 21 points, while Haileigh Orzel and Abbey Stanford each scored 12. Olivia Dahn and Sophie Bogdanski each had 7 points as eleven St. Paul players added points to the cause.

Rebecca Kelly led the rebound battle with 8, while Tice added to her impressive night with 6 boards.

For Kennedy, Niyah Brown hit for 26 points, almost single-handedly trying to keep her team in the game.

St. Paul’s next game is Tuesday, 12/20 at Ansonia for a 6:30 start.
