NEW BRITAIN – At the Class MM CIAC Boys and Girls Track & Field Championships on Tuesday, June 2, both squads from Bristol Eastern  made gains throughout the day.

The event from Willow Brook Park in New Britain saw the girls from BE take 15th place overall (15 points) while the boys earned 27th (two points).

On the boys side in triple jump action, Eastern’s Rashard Williams nabbed seventh place with a leap of 38 feet, four inches to put the Kingstreeters on the board.

The Weston boys won the event with 84 points, Daniel Hand came in second with 68 while Avon took third at 56.

Woodstock Academy (46) nabbed fourth place while East Lyme (45) snared fifth and was just a point behind.

In the girls championship, Eastern’s 4×800 team made a remarkable showing.

The combination of Fiona Gallagher, Maura Cyr, Victoria Kosciukiewicz, and Avery Braccia earned five points for their squad with a fourth place finish of 10:10.71.

And in the javelin, Eastern’s Mackenzie Fitzsimons was simply tremendous.

She made a huge toss of 112 feet, six inches and was the runner up of the event.

All five of those girls next move on to the Connecticut State Open event on June 2.

Hillhouse won the Class MM championship behind 80.50 points while Joel Barlow (77) was the runner-up.

Berlin (62.50) placed third, Bethel (59) nabbed fourth while East Lyme (53) seized fifth.
