TBE Sports Sunday: State Open will have several athletes from Bristol in competition this Tuesday

By Michael Letendre

Several scholastic athletes from Bristol have put together remarkable seasons in track & field this past spring.

We’ve had athletes establish new school records while several younger runners have made significant gains from the early month of April – leading to top performances in the Class L and MM championships from last Monday and Tuesday.

And those tremendous showings qualified several athletes for the CIAC State Championship Track and Field meet from Willow Brook Park in New Britain this Tuesday.

Sophomore, junior, and senior classes will be represented by the Bristol public schools this year at the statewide event.

The CIAC put together their State Open performance list of athletes on Thursday which included all of the top five qualifiers from each class earning an automatic bid to the challenge.

The Eastern girls will have five representatives at the championship meet while the Central boys will also bring five athletes.

The combined Boys and Girls Championship will have the field events commence at 3:30 p.m. while the running showdowns take place at 4:00 p.m. that day.
