Canal Street Trio will be the special guests of Bristol Brass and Wind Ensemble’s St. Patrick Day concert on March 12, at 7 p.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church on Summer Street.

The free concert will headline Bristol Brass and Wind Ensemble under the direction of Richard Theriault and assistant director Kyle Camerato. The trio is an Irish traditional music trio that grew out of local sessions in Connecticut.

Musical selections include “An Irish party in Third Class”; “The Irish Washerwoman” and “The Rakes of Mallow” by Leroy Anderson; Julia Delany’s “Reel by Strommen”; “Irish Tune” by Percy Granger. BBEW will also be playing a Charles Ives piece, “Variations on America” and “First Suite in E-flat” by Gustav Holst.

The Canal Street Trio is comprised of Derek Monahan, Matthew Burke, and Ivan Belvis-Navarro.

Monahan is a versatile guitarist, banjoist, and singer working across New England. He has built a career performing various styles of music including classical, disco, Irish, sea shanties, and rock.

Burke originally hails from the great state of Maine and has spent time living in both Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and Cork, Ireland honing his traditional fiddling style. Burke’s playing can be heard on Spotify with the band Beyond the Pale (Hill of Sallows). He also was a founding member of the contradance band “The Gooseberries.”

Belvis-Belvis studied Communications with a major in Music and Audio Production at the University of Puerto Rico and is an award-winning producer for both music and television including winning a Latin Grammy and a nomination for an Emmy. He started playing multiple instruments at a young age and after an introduction to ITM in the early 2000’s and later moving to Connecticut with his wife, Ivan decided to focus on Irish Traditional Music. To sample his traditional music production, search his musical project “Radharc.”

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
