MIDDLETOWN – The Bristol Eastern girls tennis team picked up a big victory on Wednesday, defeating Middletown in a 4-3 CCC South battle from Middletown high school.

Eastern improved to 1-3 with the match win while the Blue Dragons remained winless at 0-3.

The Lancers split the day in singles play but took two of the three doubles matches to take the event.

In No. 2 singles play, Eastern’s Brooke Treannie defeated Rilynn Tanasi, 6-4 and 6-2, and then in the final singles slot, the Lancers’ Ava Gesner was pushed to the limit against Middletown’s Ava Mantiero as a third set was needed.

In the end, Gesner ramped up a 10-5 win to take her match.

And then in the top doubles showdown, Eastern’s excellent combination of Jenna Cefaly and Brianna Kelley spun Nora Smith and Mackenzie by identical 6-1 scores.

The No. 3 duo of Kiana Ouellette and Samantha Rivard also won, taking the match 6-2 and 6-2 against Middletown’s Riley Chatman and Amy Tortora to give the Lancers to wins in doubles action.

To round out the afternoon, Middletown’s Julia Campbell defeated Eastern’s Ashlee Lewandoski 6-0 and 6-0 in top singles play.

Middletown’s number three singles’ competitor, Nicole Forno, had to sweat against Eastern’s Olivia Dossias but won over set scores of 6-4 and 6-2.

Finally, in No. 2 doubles action, the Blue Dragon’s team of Chelsea Freer and Kelly Baran were pushed to the limit by Adrianna Reay and Trish Mohan.

The BE connection forced a third set but fell 10-6 in the end.
