CT Open House Day offers free admission to museums, other cultural venues on Saturday; city hall summer hours set; Republican legislators to hold 2023 session review

Several Bristol locations to participate in CT Open House Day on Saturday

Several Bristol venues are among the more than 200 tourism attractions across the state, including museums, arts and cultural venues, historical sites, farms and restaurants, welcoming visitors with free or discounted admission or special offers on Saturday, June 10.

The American Clock & Watch Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on CT Open House Day. Admission is free.

The Bristol Historical Society is offering free admission to its Bristol BSA Scouters Reunion, which includes a display of Bristol-related Scouting items from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Reunion program is followed by a 2 p.m. live showing at the First Congregational Church up the hill at 31 Maple St.

The Carousel Museum is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free rides for children on the carousel all day.

Local coffee entrepreneur cuts ribbon on Waterbury store

Bristol resident Mark MacGregor, who owns Bristol’s Aroma Joe’s, opened a second store with co-owner Henry MacLaughlin, in Waterbury on Monday. The opening marks the 100th store opening in the Aroma Joe chain.

City Hall summer hours set

Starting Monday, June 5, most City Hall Offices will close at 2 p.m. on Fridays. The Building Department, the Comptroller’s Office, and the Public Works Department, however, will close at 1:30 p.m. on Fridays.

The changes will be in effect until Friday, Sept. 1.

Republican state legislators to hold session update at Public Library

The Republican elected officials representing Bristol at the capitol will hold a public legislative update on the recently completed session Wednesday, June 24, at the Bristol Public Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

On hand will be Republican State Sen. Henri Martin and Reps. Cara Pavalock-D’Amato and Joe Hoxha. The event is open to the public.

Exchange Club program ‘Honoring Heroes’ planned in June

The Greater Bristol Exchange Club will be honoring the late police officers Lt. Dustin DeMonte and Sgt. Alex Hamzy, along with Officer Alec Iurato as this year’s “Police Officers of the Year” at its “Honoring Heroes” program at the Aqua Turf Grand Ball Room on June 29.

DeMonte and Hamzy were struck down in the line of duty in an Oct. 12 shooting. Iurato, who was injured in the same incident, is credited for stopping the shooter.

Proceeds from the event will go to the “Fund the First,” a fund which was set up in honor of our deceased officers, and to assist their families.

Wheeler 38th annual golf tournament fundraiser set for Sept. 13

Wheeler’s 38th Annual Golf Classic, presented by Mutual of America Financial Group for the fifth consecutive year, will take place at The Country Club of Farmington on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Registration is open, and sponsors, players, and prize donors are welcome. 

Proceeds from this event will support our planned community health center and flagship location in Bristol, which will provide convenient, whole-health services for the whole family in one convenient location.

In 2022, the Golf Classic event grossed a record-breaking $100,000 to support individuals and families in care through Wheeler’s Basic Needs Fund, bringing the total amount raised since its inception to more than $1.3 million.
