Bristol Central wrestling drops tough 49-25 decision at Berlin this past week

BERLIN – The Bristol Central wrestling program took on the class of the CCC South last Wednesday with a trip to Berlin High School from the Jim Day Gymnasium. 

The Rams ended up falling to the Redcoats 49-25 – losing for just the third time all year.

The Redcoats improved to 5-3 overall, 3-0 in CCC South competition. 

The Rams fell to 1-2 in the CCC South but carry an impressive 7-3 overall ledger. 

Over the lightweight bouts, Central hung tough but just couldn’t pick up a win as Maleeah Rios (113 pounds) and Kaden Dragon (120) battled but dropped their respective matches. 

Central picked up the victory at 126 as Central’s Alex Lamarre battled Berlin’s Ryan Sullivan into third period action. 

And Lamarre zipped up a late pinfall victory, tallying the win in 5:03. 

Also for the Rams, Joseph Niek (132) earned a pin over Luke Hatfield, needing just 75 seconds to earn the victory while at 138, it was another win for Central. 

Julian Colon pinned Berlin’s Jed Dubuc in 2:43 while Central’s Derek Sedlak (144) dropped an 8-2 decision to Hiram Sepulveda.  

At 150 pounds, Central’s Aiden Lamarre nabbed four points in a 10-2 decision over Landon Cote while Berlin’s Jack Heeps (157) pinned Alexander Zolla in 2:44. 

Central standout Lincoln Archibald (165) won yet again, stirring up a 7-2 decision against Aidan Dejesus. 

The Redcoats ended up taking four bouts in the heavier weight classes. 

Berlin’s Conlan Simard (175) nabbed a default win against Jayden Colon, Tim Mrachek (190) pinned Rocco Paolino in 1:02, Zander Varricchio (215) earned a pinfall victory over Jack Jones in 1:17 and at heavyweight, Nicholas Ebrahimi (285) pinned Central’s Michael Jones in 17 seconds.

Art Power
Central returned to Berlin on Saturday in the annual Art Power Duals at 9:30 a.m. and the program was able to capture three victories that day.

The Rams earned a 45-36 victory over Branford as the locals battled several non-conference programs.

Pomperaug also fell to Central via a thirty-point spread (54-24) while also defeating Lyman Memorial (57-23) as the Rams were able to made a third place finish in Berlin.

Central also battled seventh ranked RHAM, the winner of the event, losing that bout just 13 points.

The Raptors earned a 47-34 triumph against the Rams, eventually winning the event.

Once again, Lincoln Archibald had a day for the locals, winning all four of his matches via pinfall decisions.

Also adding three victories on Saturday for Central were Aiden Lamarre, Kaden Dragon, Julian Colon and Joey Niek.
