Bristol Central’s Jarrett Boxley wins the Class L state championship in the 55 meter hurdles on Saturday in New Haven

NEW HAVEN – After getting past the injury bug in football, Bristol Central’s Jarrett Boxley was looking forward to the indoor track season.

And he made a huge showing at the Class L Championships on Saturday, seizing a state title in the process.

Boxley won the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 7.97 seconds to take the championship.

Overall, the Central boys made quite a splash – earning sixth place from the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

The Rams scored 27 points over a tremendous day of action.

Xavier of Middletown won the Class L championship behind 86.50 points, Hillhouse was the runner-up with 54 while New Milford was third (48) along with Conard.

Windsor (34) took fifth while Central was just seven points behind.

Bristol Eastern was also in the mix, posting three points which was good for 18th place.

For the Rams, Frankie Porrini made some noise at the event in both the 1600 and 3200 meters.

In the 1600, Porrini placed third with a finish of 4:27.28 and in the 3200, the outstanding athlete was fifth in 9:48.40.

Central was a force in the 1600 Sprint Medley, taking second place behind state title winner Xavier (3:40.79).

The Rams combination of Boxley, Logan Jackson, Noah Conrod, and Porrini were the runner-up’s in 3:43.41.

Eastern’s Carter Harris place fourth in the pole vault with a successful attempt at 10 feet, six inches and then in the shot put, Central’s Malachi Jones earned sixth place with a throw of 46 feet, 5.25 inches.

The Central girls tied for 20th place with two points and in the 1600 medley, the combination of Christina Browne, Lynae Lewis, Rebecca Litwinczyk, and Sophia Stark took fifth with a time of 4:39.79

NOTES…Bristol Central principal Pete Wininger announced Boxley’s championship accomplishment during the boys basketball game on Saturday, earning tremendous applause from the capacity crowd from the Charles C. Marsh Gymnasium as Donovan Clingan was leading the cheers.
