Bristol Eastern volleyball edges Farmington in thrilling 4-set victory

After a relatively ho-hum first set victory, the Bristol Eastern volleyball team was forced to dig deep in gutting out a 3-1 victory over Farmington from the Lancerdome Wednesday night.

Farmington gave the Lancers everything they could handle, and in sets two through four the River Hawks jumped out to early leads and actually got within a point of victory in all three sets. Here is how the drama unfolded.

Set 2- Farmington led throughout and actually stretched their lead to 23-18, and then the Lancers ran off eight of the next nine points to escape with a 26-24 victory.

Set 3- Again the River Hawks jumped out to a lead and held it throughout, and once again the BE girls came back and actually served at 25-24 with a chance to close out the match. A close call in the corner on match point went against the Lancers, and Farmington ran off the next two points to win a 27-25 nail-biter.

Set 4- For the third consecutive set, the River Hawks jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back until the score stood at 21-14. Again, the Lancers scrapped back into the set, and finally tied the score at 24 apiece. Each team had set point chances, but ultimately Bristol Eastern put two good points together and walked off with a 29-27 overtime thriller and a match victory of three sets to one.

Eastern was led by Emily Valentine with eight aces and 18 digs, and Lilli Lowe with 10 kills and 2 aces.
Aubrey Zadrozny paced Farmington with eight aces and 15 assists.
