Barbara Lou (Carlson) Moris, 88

Barbara Lou (Carlson) Moris 88, widow of Richard J. Moris, passed away peacefully at Village Green of Bristol Saturday, Dec. 16, where she had been a resident for many years. Despite her infirmities Barbara always welcomed visitors with a smile and stayed sharp with reading, games, and puzzles. She loved basketball in any form and was an avid UConn fan, never missing a televised game.

Barbara was born in Bristol Aug. 29, 1935, and one of three children of the late J. Herbert and Adelaide (Hall) Carlson. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and a congregant of Prospect United Methodist Church.

A lifelong Bristol resident Barbara attended local schools graduating from Bristol High School before attending Katharine Gibbs College in Boston. Growing up, Barbara spent summers at Lake Winnipesaukee surrounded by family building fond memories that she cherished. After marrying Richard, starting a family, and establishing their long-time home on Collins Road Barbara went to work at CIGNA Insurance Company, retiring after decades of dedicated service. In her retirement years Barbara enjoyed traveling, knitting, Sunday breakfasts with friends, and socializing daily at the Bristol Senior Center.

Barbara was predeceased by her son Jeffrey Moris, brother Robert Carlson, and sister Sally Howard. Barbara is survived by her son Jonathan and daughter in law Barbara Moris of Burlington, Conn.; granddaughter Carly Moris of East Providence, R.I.; loving cousin Sharon Hall Chernesky of Noank, Conn.; as well as brother-in-law Jerry Howard of Costa Rica in addition to several nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to all those that brightened Barbara’s day by visited during her long stay at Village Green, particularly her daughter in law who made life more enjoyable bringing gifts and treats during frequent visits. Special thanks to the compassionate and caring staff of Village Green who became Barbara’s extended family.

There are no calling hours. A private burial at Peacedale Cemetery in Bristol will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Barbara’s name to your favorite charity. Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, is honored to serve the Moris family.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
