Maloney’s 8-run first inning sparks win over Bristol Eastern Wednesday afternoon

The Bristol Eastern baseball team was defeated by Maloney on Wednesday, dropping an 11-1 decision in a shortened game.

The Spartans sent twelve batters to the plate in the top of the first against Eastern starter Caleb Molinskly. Six hits, two walks and an error allowed Maloney grab a quick 8-0 lead.  

Maloney’s Tyler Duffy led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a double by Mark Whittington.  Molinsky got an out, but then a single by Alex Perez scored Whittington. Singles by Adrian Rodriquez and Ethan Nedinsky made it 3-0, and then a walk and two-run single by Jamir Penn made it 5-0. Duffy walked to force in the sixth run, and then an infield error scored the final two as Maloney led 8-0 before the Lancers could come to bat.

Eastern scored a run in the bottom of the second as singles by Anthony Nocera and Noah Molinsky, sandwiched around a walk to Eli Brown, loaded the bases. Nocera then scored on a groundout.

Maloney added two runs in the fourth.  A single by Perez, followed by a double to left by Jake Giacco put runners on second and third, and then Nedinsky singled in both runners to make it a 10-1 game.

Noah Molinsky came on in relief for Eastern, getting the final out of the fourth.  

In the Maloney sixth, a single, followed by a walk, and finally a single by Alex Kontoulis scored the eleventh Spartan run.

The game was called after six because of the ten-run mercy rule.

Eastern collected only five singles for the game, by Preston Guarda in the first, by Nocera and Noah Molinsky in the second, by Ben D’Amato in the third, and by Randy DeNoto in the sixth.

Eastern is now 0-3 on the season, while Maloney is 2-2.

The Lancers next game is scheduled for Friday at 12:00, hosting Lewis Mills.
