Eastern boys edge Southington in soccer

Bristol Eastern (1-1-1) got a late goal from  junior Dylan Piazza and senior day was a success for the Lancers in a 2-1 victory over visiting Southington (0-1-2).

Eastern scored first with 3:49 left in the first half as Martin Wuesthoff took a Dom Femiak pass at the far post and slid it into the net.

Southington evened the score with 8:25 left in the second half when William Schroeder hit a quick shot out of a group of players at the edge of Eastern’s penalty area.

Piazza’s goal came after Adam Borry took the ball at midfield and passed to his brother Tyler.   Tyler’s ensuing pass went outside to a cutting Piazza who drilled a hard shot into the far corner of the net.

“I’m happy for the seniors who have put a lot of effort into the program,” said Coach Sweet.  “They beat a quick, aggressive team, and with their teammates they stood up to Southington’s late push and goal.”

Seniors recognized were Nate DiLoreto, Brandon Greger, Luke Hammer, Gabe Johnson, Andrew Lozier, Elijah Parent,  Joe Verardi, and Martin Wuesthoff.

Eastern travels to Lewis Mills on Tuesday afternoon.
