Public Works accepting requests for additional trash barrels and additional trash barrel renewals

Public Works has opened enrollment for additional trash barrels and offers several methods for payment, it was announced earlier this week.

Collection period for the barrels is from Jan. 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2024. The release recommends acquiring new barrels as soon as possible, since the $155 per barrel per calendar year, is not pro-rated.

Residential properties of one to five units are provided one rubbish barrel and one recycle barrel per unit. For example, two-family homes have two rubbish barrels, five-unit homes have five rubbish barrels. Any additional rubbish barrels are $155 per barrel for the calendar year.

Any additional rubbish barrel will be emptied weekly, on your regular rubbish day.

The form for the additional barrel subscription, both new service and renewals, is available by clicking here: 2024 additional rubbish barrel subscription form. A completed subscription form must be filled out with all methods of payment, including in-office and mail-in payments. Service will be activated once both a subscription form and payment are received.

The city allows payments online, in-person and by mail.

If paying by mail, please mail the check (payable to The City of Bristol) to the Public Works Department, 111 North Main St., Bristol, CT 06010.

In-person payments are being accepted at the Public Works Department at the same address.

If paying by mail or online, the sticker will be mailed. If paying in office, the sticker will be available at the time of purchase.

All online payments and in-office credit/debit cards are subject to a convenience fee, typically 2.95 percent of the transaction fee.

Persons who will not be renewing the additional rubbish barrel are asked to call Public Works at 860-584-6125 so it can be picked up.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
