November heat waves brings hundreds to Rockwell Park

Rockwell Park on a warm autumn day. | Laura Bailey

Children playing, couples walking their dogs and families having picnics were basking in the warmth of a summer day in November.

“My son actually asked me if the pool would be open because it’s so warm,” said John Miller. “We’ve been here all day, it’s nice to be outside.”

Miller and his 9-year-old son were enjoying a walk around the Rockwell Park pond.

Temperatures in the mid-70s brought hundreds of visitors to the park, many wearing shorts, sundresses or crocs.

“I didn’t think I would be back in sandals until May,” said Miller. “Pretty cool.”

While the weather brought back memories of summer, the scenery was autumn at its finest. The leaf-strewn trails throughout the park gleamed gold, orange and scarlet underfoot.

Though the final leaves of the season are still clinging to some scattered trees throughout the park, fall foliage is well past its peak.  The branches of oaks, maples and birch trees will remain bare until awakened in the spring.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access eight (8) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access eight (8) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have no limits.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
