St. Paul baseball defeats Kennedy in Waterbury

The St. Paul Catholic High School battery of Kyle Wilson and Cal Chance led the Falcons to an 11-0 win over the Kennedy Eagles in Waterbury last night. Senior pitcher Kyle Wilson picked up his first win of the season going 4 2/3 innings allowing only two hits while striking out 11. Catcher Cal Chance led the St. Paul offense with 5 RBIs including an inside the park grand slam in the 4th inning.

St. Paul took advantage of two Kennedy errors in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. With one out, an infield error allowed Logan Rembish to reach second base safely. Chance followed with an RBI single to right that was misplayed and allowed Chance to go to third base. AJ Corrado hit a sacrific fly to center, and St. Paul led 2-0.

Rembish led off the third inning with a triple down the left field line. Rembish scored on Coby Dagata’s sacrifice fly to left, and St. Paul led 3-0 after three innings.

The St. Paul offense exploded for eight runs on eight hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the game away. The inning featured the grand slam by Chance, two hits by center fielder Jay DeRosa, RBI singles by Nate Barrett and Cooper Sima, and singles by Mike DeRosa, Corrado, and Dagata.

Wilson recorded the first two outs of the fifth inning before giving way to Dom Napoletano who got the final out of the game. Starter Darien Jordan pitched the entire game and took the loss for the Eagles.

For Kennedy – no player had multiple hits or an extra base hit

For St. Paul:

Cal Chance was 2 for 3 with a Grand Slam, 5 RBIs, and 2 runs scored

Jay DeRosa was 3 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored

Coby Dagata was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored

Logan Rembish was 1 for 3 with a triple and 3 runs scored
