New bus routes and changes to service announced

Bus service in Bristol as been expanded to serve key employment centers – along with Bristol Adult Education – along Route 229 linking Bristol with Southington and New Britain, it was announced recently by the city.

CTtransit Bus Route 502 will be extended to run along Emmett Street, Enterprise Drive and Middle Street to South Bristol.

Stops along the route will serve those taking classes at Bristol Adult Education as well as employees working in the Southeast Bristol Business Park, 229 Technology Park, Lake Compounce, DoubleTree by Hilton and the new Bristol Event Center, ESPN and Amazon Distribution.   

In the announcement, Mayor Jeffrey Caggiano thanks Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments, CTtransit and the Connecticut Department of Transportation for opening up this route.

In addition to the extended CTtransit Bus Route 502, CTtransit and CTfastrak announced the following changes to local bus service routes. These changes become effective today, Nov. 5:

102 – Hartford/New Britain/Bristol
Weekdays, Saturdays & Sundays
Route 102 will be rerouted to operate via Pine Street in Bristol, past Forestville Commons (Stop & Shop) in both directions, replacing the service previously provided by Route 502.

The schedule for Route 102 is also being adjusted in preparation for the launch of the new 532 Queen Street route (coming soon). Please refer to the CTtransit website for updates: https://www.cttransit.com/

 502 – New Britain/Bristol
Weekdays, Saturdays & Sundays
 Route 502 will be rerouted to operate via East Main and Broad Streets in Bristol, through Forestville Center in both directions. Service to Pine Street and Forestville Commons will now be provided by CTfastrak Route 102.

In addition, Route 502 will be extended along Emmett Street, Enterprise Drive and Middle Street to South Bristol, serving destinations such as Bristol Adult Education, ESPN, Lake Compounce, Amazon, DoubleTree by Hilton and more.

Route 502 will also adopt a new schedule. Buses will now operate hourly all day, including nights and weekends. Buses will depart downtown New Britain at :30 past each hour and will depart downtown Bristol at :40 past each hour. 542 – Bristol Hospital
Weekdays, Saturdays & Sundays
The schedule for Route 542 is being revised.  Buses will now depart downtown Bristol at :20 past each hour. Return trips will depart Bristol Hospital at :28 past each hour.
