Bristol Eastern boys track team stays perfect in 2023 with easy 103-47 win at Berlin, setting up a huge bout against Bristol Central on Tuesday

By Michael Letendre

BERLIN – The Bristol Eastern boys track and field program moved to a perfect 6-0 in CCC South meets on Tuesday with its 103-47 demolition of Berlin from Biscoglio Track on the road.

That victory set up a huge confrontation with crosstown rival Bristol Central this coming Tuesday (3:45 p.m.) at BCHS.

The victor of that city series confrontation will go on to claim the CCC South regular season championship.

Once again, the Lancers dominated the short distance events as speedster Rayshon Andrews won the 100 meters (11.3 seconds) and also took the 200 meters (22.42 seconds) per his usual.

In the 110 hurdles, Zion Otero seized the win in 17.14 seconds while senior standout Jack Mulcunry nabbed several first place tallies along the way.

He won both the 400 meters (51.82 seconds) and 800 meters (2:03.78) events while teammate Dominic Tartarelli was the victor in both the mile and two-mile showdowns.

Tartarelli won the 1600 meters in just under five minutes (4:55) while his finish of 11:25 in the 3200 meters was a great time for the Kingstreeters.

In the field, Eastern has first place tallies over several events.

Diandre Diaz-Bazilio took the shot put with a heave of 38 feet, 1.5 inches while teammate Austin Shorette was a dual victor.

Shorette’s toss of 121 feet, six inches was the winning mark in the javelin while he won the discus with a make of 109 feet, 10 inches.

Michael Sherrill took first in the high jump (five feet, eight inches) while the Kingstreeters won all three relay events.

The combination of Preston Poirier, Justin Sanchez, Dennis Cruz, Rayshon Andrews won Eastern the 4×100 relay in 44.21 seconds while the program also had luck in the 4×400.

This time around, Otero, Dennis Cruz, Preston Poirier, and Mulcunry ended the bout in first place (3:41) while the foursome consisting of Dominic Tartarelli, Jase Koczur, Brendan Tartarelli, and Mulcunry won the 4×800 relay (9:11).

NOTE…Don’t forget about the BC/BE showdown next Tuesday. Both programs have several tremendous athletes and the meet will be a good one to witness between the Rams and Lancers.
