Important winter athletic spectator rules for Bristol Public schools

By Michael Letendre

As COVID continues to wreak havoc on our every day lives in Bristol, the winter scholastic sports season is finally upon us.

The good news is that a full slate of games are scheduled for boys and girls hoop and the return of scholastic wrestling is certainly a big deal at both Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern.

But new protocols have been put into place as the sports scene has shifted to indoor venues.

And along those lines, here are the guidelines that have been established for all Bristol public high school sporting events:

In efforts to keep COVID numbers down and keep our winter season uninterrupted by the rising number of positive COVID cases, Bristol Public Schools has put forth the following protocols for spectators at our winter contests this season.  Please read the following very carefully:

At this time:

  • Home team members sitting on the bench with the expectation to play will be allowed 4 guests to attend.
  • Home team cheerleaders cheering at their level of play will be allowed 4 guests.
  • Home team coaches will be allowed 4 guests.
  • Visiting team members sitting on the bench with the expectation to play, will be allowed 2 guests.
  • Visiting team coaches will be allowed 2 guests.
  • No visiting team cheerleaders will be allowed at this time.
  • Immediately after the game, spectators will be asked to leave the facility to allow for cleaning before the next contest.
  • Guests must be pre-registered to attend.  Guests not on the pre-registered guest list will not be admitted.  Student athletes will complete their four-person guest list with their coaches so that the ticket takers at the door know who may enter and who may not enter.  Please see below for further details.
  • There will be no food or beverages sold or brought into the building for athletic contests.  Please see below for further details.
