CCC Volleyball Tournament to start on Monday as both Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern begin postseason play

By Michael Letendre

The Central Connecticut Conference volleyball tournament is back after a one-year hiatus as both the squads from Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central are in the mix for the 2021 edition.

Tournament play starts on Monday at eight different venues across the CCC landscape.

The bracket consists of the top 16 programs from the CCC and only league games were counted to determine the seeding.

The field is loaded once again and the Lancers (11-5) drew the No. 7 slot – earning a home seed in the process – while the Rams (10-6) are ranked eleventh.

Eastern and Central are the top squads with teams of a similar record.

Plainville, also at 11-5, is ranked tenth and squares off against Eastern from the Thomas M. Monahan Gymnasium in Bristol.

And it’s been a long time since the Blue Devils have hung a loss on the Lancers.

Central battles No. 6 Glastonbury on the road in a big CCC tilt and the Rams will be ready for the challenge.

Back on September 20, Eastern swept Plainville 3-0 in Bristol while Central and Glastonbury tangle for the first time in 2021.

The top five teams in this year’s CCC Volleyball Tournament are RHAM (No. 1, 15-1 CCC record), Conard (No. 2, 15-1), Edwin O. Smith (No. 3, 14-2), Maloney (No. 4, 13-3), and Southington (No. 5, 13-3).

Bristol’s squads might be in the middle of the pack but both programs are capable of pulling off big upsets against the top teams of the CCC.

Since losing to RHAM, the Lancers have won four of six matches while Central is currently looking for its first CCC victory since October 18 – a 3-0 triumph against the Blue Devils.

The quarterfinal round commences on Tuesday with the higher seed earning home court and then on Thursday, the semifinals takes place on Thursday, November 4 in Simsbury.

And on Saturday, its championship day as the two remaining teams battle it out for the CCC Tournament title – also from Simsbury high school.

Admission for the matches in Simsbury is $5 for adults and $3 for children and senior citizens.
