BE girls Tennis just off the mark in encounter at East Catholic

By Michael Letendre

MANCHESTER – The Bristol Eastern girls tennis team just missed out on winning its second match in a row – dropping a tough 4-3 decision against East Catholic from the tennis courts at Wickham Park in Manchester in a CCC Interdivisional bout.

The Lancers, now 1-3, saw success in both singles and doubles play as the locals snared both the second and third slot in singles action.

Eastern’s Brooke Treannie, the No. 2 singles player for the Lancers, defeated Taylor Lane by scores of 6-0 and 6-1 while Olivia Dossias (No. 3) beat Annabelle Staback behind set totals of 7-6 and 6-4.

Catholic’s top singles player, Madeline Bolduc, shutout Eastern’s Ashlee Lewandoski (6-0, 6-0) and in the No. 4 spot, the Eagles’ Abigail Harman (No. 4) defeated Ava Gesner by scores of 6-2 and 6-0.

It was a good split by the locals in singles play.

However, East Catholic did extremely well in doubles competition – serving up two wins to help seize the match.

The combination of Ashley Jeong and Alexandra Long turned away Eastern’s top doubles duo of Jenna Cefaly and Brianna Kelley by identical 6-3 scores.

In No. 2 doubles action, the Lancers earned a hard-fought victory as the team of Adrianna Reay and Trish Mohan battled Sophia Ferruolo and Mallory Krasusky into a third set challenge.

And the Reay/Mohan combo won the third set, 10-3, to take the game in the end.

Finally in No. 3 doubles play, East Catholic’s Shreya Senthil and Cece Johnson stopped Eastern’s team of Gina D’Angelo and Kiana Ouellette (6-3, 6-3).

This coming Wednesday, Eastern is back in action on the road as the Lancers battle Middletown at 3:45 p.m.
