Bristol Eastern girls basketball splits its first two game of the week, losing to Middletown but picking up a victory over Lewis Mills

BRISTOL – Wednesday started a new winning streak for the Bristol Eastern girls basketball team as the Lancers belted CCC South competitor Lewis Mills from pillar to post.

The Kingstreeters led by 14 after one quarter, did not allow a single point to be scored in the third and eventually cruised to a 55-31 victory from the Thomas M. Monahan Gymnasium in Bristol.

The Lancers improved to 6-9 overall while the Spartans fell to 5-10.

Ciara Collins zipped up a game-high 23 points while Vanessa Drury and Emma Stavens each contributed seven over the winning endeavor.

Taigan Parent dropped in two three-pointers, Gracie LaMar and Tavia Swain each kicked in four while Janessa Gonzalez chipped in with a hoop.

No player for Mills scored in double figures during the thirty-two minute fray.

Jordan Anderson, Lillian Martineau, Ava Beach, and Maggie Lagana each finished with five points for the Spartans.

The Lancers led 26-12 through one period as Collins zipped in 12 points while Eastern outscored the visiting aggression in the second stanza by a 10-5 push to scoop up a 36-17 halftime edge.

The Lancers notched 12 points over third period play and with eight minutes remaining, it was a 49-17 tilt and the contest was all but over.

NOTES…To start the week on Monday, Eastern hung around with Middletown but eventually fell by a 62-54 final…Collins dumped 29 points on the Blue Dragons, going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line…Gonzalez posted 12 points, Parent canned two threes while the returning Emma Stavens added five points as she worked her way back into the Lancers’ line-up…Eastern went 12-of-12 from the foul line as a team.
