Emile A. Martel, 82

Emile A. Martel, 82, of Haines City, Fla., formerly of Bristol, beloved husband of Jean (Blanchette) Martel, died on June 5, in Winter Haven, Fla. 

Emile was born in Bristol on Feb. 15, 1940, and was one of five children of the late Edward and Rose (Simoneau) Martel. 

A lifelong Bristol resident, he graduated from Bristol High School and was a longtime parishioner of St. Ann Church. He proudly served is country in the United States Air Force before going to work for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft for 33 years before retiring. He and Jean have resided in Haines City, Fla., for the past 15 years.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and was always on the go. 

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Emile is survived by three sons: Michael Martel and wife, Nancy, John Martel and wife, Frances, and Thomas Martel, all of Bristol; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Bruce Martel, and his five siblings. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 25, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 215 West St., Bristol. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. There are no calling hours. Please visit Emile’s memorial website at www.FunkFuneralHome.com.
