Porrini leads boys to double victory

MERIDEN – The Bristol Central boys cross team started the 2021 campaign off on a winning note, spinning both rival Berlin and host Platt in a tri-meet from Hubbard Park in Meriden on Monday.

The Rams, now 2-0, defeated the CCC South, Patriot division foes behind an outstanding effort from junior Frankie Porrini.

The first place finisher won the race in 16:43 and the runner-up at the event wasn’t even in the vicinity by the time Porrini crossed the finish line.

Overall, Central defeated Platt 15-50 while the Rams clipped the Redcoats by a 27-28 tally.

Berlin’s Ben Fisler was way off in the distance in the wake of Porrini, taking second place with a time of 17:55, followed by Central’s Chris Roy (third, 18:58).

Also for the Rams, Lance Archibald, another up-and-coming runner, nabbed sixth place in 19:37 while teammate Ryan Sarmiento (7th, 19:59) just finished the race in under twenty minutes.

Rounding out the top-10 for Central was Braydan Dwyer (10th, 20:43) as the locals had a very good regular season debut in Meriden.
