St.Paul girls advance to semi-finals with win over Northwestern, 61-38

Basketball

St. Paul girls basketball team was not going to have anything to do with a slow start against Northwestern Regional of Winsted Monday night. The Falcons jumped all over their opponent with a stifling defense and a flurry of baskets, including ten 3’s, and dominated the game from start to finish for a 61-38 victory at the St. Paul gym.

Nadia Reimer led the 3-point barrage with 6 treys and a 20 point output, Zoey Rubins added 11, Izzy Leggett 9, and ten Falcons dented the scoreboard in another balanced attack for the 5th seeded St. Paul outfit.

The Falcons led by 7 after one, and by 19 at the half, giving coach Joe Mone the opportunity to play his full bench brigade.

Maddie Tora was the only Northwestern player in double figures, tallying 19, including 13 foul shots.

St. Paul now advances to the semi-finals on Friday against #1 seed Sacred Heart Academy. The site and time are TBA right now. SHA defeated Berlin 34-29 in the other quarterfinal on Monday. SHA also garnered a lot of attention earlier this season when they pounded Lyman Hall 92-4 in a game on January 3. We will go out on a limb and predict a much closer game on Friday.
