Robert K. Erling, 72

Robert K. Erling, 72, longtime Bristol resident, beloved husband of Cynthia (Solak) Erling, died on Sunday at Jerome Home, New Britain. Bob was born in New Britain on January 19, 1951, and was the only child of the late Kenneth and Pauline (Russell) Erling. 

A longtime Bristol resident, he graduated from Bristol schools and from the University of Connecticut. He worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection where he was a member of the siting council in the early days of placing cell phone towers. 

He loved his job as it brought him to enjoy the outdoors. He loved nature and would feed the birds each morning outside his home before having his own breakfast. He was an avid reader and held a keen interest in history especially the American Civil War. He was also an avid New York Giants fan who never missed a game on television. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Forestville. 

In addition to his loving wife, Bob is survived by three stepchildren: Lisa Williams and husband, Geno of Bristol, Marc Tucciarone and wife, Silvia of Madrid, Spain, and Thomas Tucciarone and wife, Maria of Richmond, Va.; and their children: Andrew and Matthew Nave, Malena and Bruno Tucciarone Castro, and Felina and Holden Tucciarone. He was widower of Marion “Marlo” (Lombardo) Erling.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home on Thursday between 12 and 1 p.m.
