Early morning fire destroys Mafales Plaza on Main St.

A fire that began approximately at 1 a.m. Thursday morning engulfed Mafales Plaza on Main St., totally destroying the structure that included Marty’s Package Store, Vivaldi’s Pizza, Crystal Diner, and A&E Engraving. The rear half of the building, housing the Main Street Laundromat and Dance Experience, had extensive smoke damage, but remained standing.

The alarm was called in by an Uber driver who passed the site and saw the flames. By the time the Bristol Fire Department arrived, the entire front of the building was aflame.

Fire Marshall’s from Bristol and the state were on the scene at 8 a.m., but would not comment on the source of the fire.
