St. Paul girls thump Ansonia, 59-36, in Tuesday basketball match-up

St. Paul’s girls basketball team used a third quarter explosion to propel them to a dominant 59-36 home victory over Ansonia Tuesday night.

The Falcons led by a 30-17 halftime score, and then totally stifled Ansonia after the break, holding their opponents to 5 third quarter points while scoring 17. Coach Joe Mone was able to relax and play his entire varsity roster the rest of the way, as ten St. Paul players broke into the scoring column.

Nadia Reimer led a balanced scoring line-up with 13 points. Emily Ronalter added 12 to the total, followed by Audrey Tice with 9. Olivia Dahn and Zoey Rubins chipped in with 6 points each. Rubins also added 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals to an outstanding all-around performance.

Tice and Ronalter led the boards brigade with 7 rebounds apiece.

Ansonia was led in scoring by Rishalie Garcia with 17 and JoJo Sanchez with 12 points.

St. Paul improves to 2-0 with victory. The Falcons next play on Thursday at Torrington in a 5:00 varsity contest.
