BRISTOL – One of the coolest elements of the Thanksgiving Day Football clash are all the seniors that are recognized at the game.

From the players, cheerleaders and members of the bands, all those seniors were recognized that morning – culminating with the big event on Thanksgiving – for all their hard work and efforts over the years.

It takes the combined talents of the football players, cheerleaders and band to ensure the annual holiday tradition from Muzzy Field goes off without a hitch.

Field nearly not playable on Thanksgiving

Frankly, it was amazing that the Thanksgiving Day game even took place from Muzzy Field at all that morning.

Due to a rain storm from the previous day, the field was drenched and the infield area was a real, muddy mess.

The field crew used just about every bag of speedy dry they had at their disposal to get the portion of the infield the players would be sprinting across in decent enough shape.

The pitchers mound looked like a UFO – or a sun dial – with a green tarp on top of it, surrounded by 12 orange cones and yellow police tape.

Observers were waiting for a player or two to get tackled around that area and go crashing through the combination of tape and cones.

But that disaster never happened while further down the infield, the condition of home plate was another story.

The dish was actually fenced off with an orange fence and a green tarp surrounding the area.

There was plenty of free standing water on the tarp, showing how the rain truly impacted the field.

However, Muzzy Field was more than prepared for the game and the contest went on despite the less than ideal playing conditions.
