The Veterans Strong Community Center and the Wernicki Family are accepting nominations for the Annual Patriots’ Day awards for the 5th Annual Patriot’s Day ceremony to be held Monday, April 15, 6 p.m., at Luna’s Banquet Facility on King Street.

Please consider nominating a local Veteran or Servicemember, either living or deceased. Please share with the committee how this person has been heroic in serving our country and city. Nominees do not need to reside in Bristol, as long as they contribute to the Bristol community.

Nominations are reviewed by a committee and honorees are selected and notified by mail.

Please send all nomination letters by or before March 25, to the attention of Veterans Strong Community Center, 111 North Main St., Bristol, CT 06010.

Nominations may also be emailed to Maggie.wernicki@gmail.com or by completing an online form at www.vetstronginc.org/patriots-day.

Veterans Strong Community Center and the Wernicki Family 5th Patriots’ Day ceremony will have for its mistress of ceremonies Maggie Wernicki, the youngest board member of the Veterans Strong Community Center at 17 years old.

Patriots’ Day has its roots in the Battle of Lexington and Concord which occurred on April 19, 1775. It was “The Shot Heard Round the World”, written by poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, and the first battle that started the American Revolutionary War, paving the country’s path to freedom.

Patriots’ Day became an official holiday in Connecticut as of July 10, 2017, when Connecticut joined Maine, Massachusetts and Wisconsin in celebrating the holiday.

2018 saw Bristol’s first celebration of Patriots’ Day. The Wernicki family became involved in Patriots’’ Day as “a way to recognize veterans who continued to make a difference after they completed their service,” according to the release, and as a way to honor the veterans who have given so much to the Bristol community.

Tickets to attend the dinner and ceremony are $25 per person and include buffet dinner, coffee/tea and dessert. Tickets can be purchased online at the previously mentioned link and at Veterans Strong Community Center, 111 North Main St. Bristol, CT 06010.

Please call (860)584-6258 prior to visiting the office to make sure someone is there to meet you. Ticket sales close April 8.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
