St. Paul loses in overtime to Seymour, 55-53

Basketball

The St. Paul girls overcame another slow start on Friday night, and after an 18-8 first quarter lead by Seymour, the Falcons scratched and clawed their way back into the contest, and finally caught their opponent as regulation ended in a 48-48 tie.

But Seymour was one bucket better, outscoring St. Paul 7-5 in overtime, and sending the Falcons back home to Bristol with a disappointing 55-53 defeat.

Audrey Tice was outstanding for St. Paul, scoring 24 points and adding 6 steals to her stat line.

Rebecca Kelly was another key to the Falcon comeback, chipping in with 17 points. Haileigh Orzel added 5 points to St.Paul’s total.

Seymour featured a balanced attack, as five Seymour players, led by Lauren Golebreski, would attack the basket and score. One key to the game was the 16 points the Greyhounds scored from the foul line.

Saint Paul is now 4-3 on the season.

The Falcons next travel to Naugatuck on Tuesday in a 5:15 start.
