Memorial Day celebrations were held throughout the city, making for quite a long weekend.

In Bristol, the Annual Memorial Day Procession on Monday, beginning at Hope Street, ended with a Memorial Day remembrance at the Gazebo on Memorial Boulevard and the unveiling of the New Blue Star Memorial Garden and plaque. The Bristol Garden Club sponsored the garden.

In Forestville, on Sunday, the annual Memorial Day Parade ended with dedication ceremony and laying of a wreath at the Forestville Cemetery.  The American Legion Post 209 and the Forestville Village Association sponsored the annual parade. This will be the first parade in two years, after the onset of the coronavirus.

On Saturday, the 19th annual Shamrock Run and Walk took place on its new course at Muzzy Field. The Annual Memorial Mass at Holy Chapel Mausoleum was held on Monday at St. Joseph Cemetery.

DoubleTree expansion continues

A ride down Century Drive past DoubleTree By Hilton on Sunday shows work continues on the conference center and hotel suites. The progress is very much in line with the original project proposal as presented in HP: New England Facilities Development News back in September 2020.

An event center will feature two hospitality suites, a ballroom and outside seating accommodating up to 750 people conference style or 450 people for sit-down dinners/weddings.

The expansion also includes the addition of 90 suites with flexible guest room configuration and amenities, an underground garage and walkways connecting the new venues to the existing hotel.

Hartford County remains in high category

COVID-19 stats from the Connecticut COVID Data Tracker for the week ending May, 26, show an increase in cases and a slight rise in the rate per 100,000 cases from 35.5 to 35.6 percent.

Hartford County remains in the high category. The CDC recommends the following wearing a mask indoors in public and on public transportation; staying up to date with vaccinations and boosters; and testing if experiencing symptoms.

High risk individuals should take additional precautions, such as, avoiding poorly ventilated public spaces, washing hands regularly, monitoring health daily and testing immediately if experiencing symptoms.
