NEW BRITAIN – While the Bristol Eastern girls track and field team only scored one point at the 2021 CIAC Connecticut State Track and Field Open from Willow Brook Park in New Britain on Thursday, the experience was a good one for the program.

That point was tallied by outstanding junior Mackenzie Fitzsimons in the javelin as her throw of 103 feet, six inches was good for eighth place.

Eastern’s 4×800 meter relay team of Fiona Gallagher, Maura Cyr, Victoria Kosciukiewicz, and Avery Braccia finished right around their seeding time, finishing in 10:12.63 – good for 17th place.

For Bristol Central, Salvatrice Bosco finished in 13th place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.48 and in the shot put, Krystal Rodriguez placed 22nd overall (28 feet, 10 inches).

Danbury won the State Open event by scoring 44 points while the race for the runner-up trophy came down to two squads.

In the end, Glastonbury (38) seized second place and was a single point better than Weston (37).
